Clown around the Cage with Anderson Silva

UFC 112 took place saturday night for the first time ever in the Middle East, specifically Abu Dhabi. While the location of these bouts was spectacular, the main event title fight was not. Anderson Silva vs. Demian Maia was one of the most confusing and disappointing title fights I have seen. Silva's last couple of fights have left mixed martial arts audiences devastated and in confusion, he used to not let any of his fights reach the last round and if they did it was a never-ending battle. In this fight Silva proceeded to mock Maia by putting his chin out and asking Maia to hit him; as Maia would proceed in and get closer to Silva, Silva would run away. Silva's clowning around antics caused the UFC's Dana White to leave in the fourth round and toss the middleweight championship belt at Silva's manager, he did not want to place the championship honor upon Silva because he felt he did not deserve it.

What made this fight even more disappointing and confusing was the post-fight interview with Silva and White. Silva is quoted as saying,

“I came in and dominated the fight and did what I had to do. That’s how I feel.”

This statement makes no sense at all, because while he did win the fight he ran away from Maia for most of it, even though Silva was the better fighter.

It is safe to say that we will not be seeing an awaited Silva vs. St. Pierre fight in the future and Anderson may have to defend his title on the undercard of another UFC show.

I guess Silva just got amnesia, two fights in a row and he doesn't know what happened.
